Imagine it’s 90 degrees out by 7 AM when you wake up to head to work. The bus on the cobblestone street is almost full, but you squeeze in and open the window next to you. As you wind through clogged, palm-lined city streets, a melody repeats in your head and you memorize it like a mantra.

Songwriter Casey Stikker of KZ + the Robbers can tell you a little bit about this songwriting process. Living, working and singing for four years in Rio de Janeiro afforded him a musical education and a limitless source of inspiration for material, as exemplified by the group’s 2017 release Let the Dirt Slip Through My Fingers. “My sound started taking on a lot of qualities of the music that I would hear in the street in Brazil-- both more traditional stuff like samba and also newer, more aggressive genres like carioca funk,” says Stikker. “It ended up becoming like an American rocker’s fanboy tribute to the music of Rio.”

Having relocated the project back to San Francisco in 2016, KZ + the Robbers have put this musical vision to wax with Let the Dirt Slip Through My Fingers, recorded in San Francisco and Oakland and mixed by Dave Brandwein in New York. The result is a powerful, unique mixture of influences: while the guitars and vocals howl with catchy rock-and-roll authenticity, the rhythm section is guided by the rhythmic complexity of Brazilian music. Clock in at a hard-hitting and concise 3 songs, Let the Dirt Slip Through My Fingers is a sonic tour of and an ode to a hot, crowded 21st-century city.

KZ + the Robbers’ Let the Dirt Slip Through My Fingers is due out March 23rd, 2017.
Smoky Knights
Smoky Knights
Smoky Knights is an indie rock quartet based out of LA. Their music is a colorful wash of tight vocal harmonies with heaps of 60s/70s rock and soul.

Formed in 2013, Smoky Knights has been a fixture in the LA music scene, filling venues all over town while touring up and down the west coast. In late 2016 they won a “battle of the bands” contest that earned the group $15,000. This led to the launch of their third EP, Sooner or Later, in 2017. The title track, “Sooner or Later”, has been added to multiple Spotify playlists and has received radio play in LA. Currently the band is working on their debut full length LP and maintaining a rigorous schedule of gigs, tours and local residencies.

The Mallett Brothers Band
The Mallett Brothers Band's busy tour schedule over the past seven years has helped them to build a dedicated fanbase across the U.S. and beyond while still calling the state of Maine their home. With a style that can ranges from alt-country to Americana, country, jam and roots rock, theirs is a musical melting pot that's influenced equally by the singer/songwriter tradition as by harder rock, classic country and psychedelic sounds. Texas Hill Country Explore Magazine calls them “New England’s wildly eclectic crew of genre rebels.” Bill Copeland Music News says “Combining their authentic roots rock sound with a reflective lyrical style that perceives stories on the level of epic myth, it’s like William Faulkner has been resurrected with an electric guitar in hand.."

While remaining fully independent, The Mallett Brothers Band has performed at some of the country’s top venues and festivals, including Austin Texas’s famed Continental Club; Alexandria, Virginia’s Birchmere (sharing the stage with Oklahoma red-dirt rockers The Turnpike Troubadors), New Hampshire’s Meadowbrook Pavilion (opening for The Allman Brothers Band, and again opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd); Nashville’s Bluebird; and Little Rock’s The Rev Room, to name a few. Festival appearances include FloydFest (Virginia), Hop Jam (Vermont), Nateva (Maine), The New England Country Music Festival (New Hampshire), Eastbound Throwdown (New York), and many more.
