Elysian Fields
Elysian Fields
Jennifer Charles and Oren Bloedow are the writers who make up the critically-acclaimed, little known (at least in their own country) band that formed in New York in 1995 and went on to develop a cult following of faithful fans around the world. After a dalliance with a major label for their first album in 1996, Elysian Fields recorded their second full-length with Steve Albini, generating a response from the label that had the band asking to be released from their contract. They went on to forge a path outside of the mainstream, recording with a number of independent labels over the years, most recently for Vicious Circle in France and Ojet/ Diluvian in the US. Jennifer and Oren are also known for their work outside of Elysian Fields, recording two albums of Sephardic diaspora music on John Zorn’s Tzadik label under the name La Mar Enfortuna.

Jenni- fer was part of the supergroup Lovage along with Dan the Automator and Mike Patton, and has appeared on countless albums, including those of French stars Jean-Louis Murat and Wax Tailor, and experimental composer JG Thirlwell. She has also maintained a ca- reer in theater alongside music, with leading roles in numerous Off-Broadway productions over the years. Oren has served as a secret musical weapon for a host of artists, from Rufus Wainwright and Meshell Nde- geocello to Marina Abramović and Anohni. He was the bassist for the legendary New York band Lounge Liz- ards, and guitarist for the Original Broadway produc- tion of Fela! in 2010.

Jennifer and Oren have also com- posed together for theater and dance pieces, and their music has appeared in television, film, and commer- cials around the world. Elysian Fields regularly tours in Europe, where their most loyal following can be found in France. They are “musicians’ musicians,” attracting esteemed players from around the world to sit in with their live sets. In 2015, they opened a music venue in Brooklyn called The Owl Music Parlor. In 2016, they released their most recent album Ghosts of No.
Chocolate Genius
Chocolate Genius
Born in Panama, signed on the French label 'No Format', it is in New York, at the touch of spirits as independent as Marc Ribot, Martin, Medeski & Wood, that Marc Anthony Thompson alias Chocolate Genius Inc. has been able, like Terry Callier or Arthur Lee in their times, or like his contemporaries Joe Henry or Mark Eitzel, to develop the secret formula of a universal and subtle songwriting, neither black nor white.
A songwriting that can collect in the fibers the multiple components of American identity : granting the freedom to capture both the spirit and clever player of Van Dyke Parks and the prophecies fevered of Sly Stone, the rage that dries the ancestral blues of the irreverent glee of new York jazz, and the raw energy of the indie-rock growls of the sensual soul...

L.A. knows the poet as Thompson has been living in the city for the past years. Leaving L.A. for Chocolate Genius Inc was just a temporary affair. Seeing Chocolate Genius Inc. show will be another a-temporal experience for Los Angelinos.
