It's really easy to play it safe and jump on board the latest trend, imitating the exact style and sound of everyone's favorite band of the week. It's really easy to play into the hands of a specific demographic, knowing without a doubt in your mind that kids will eat up every hook and pile on for every sing-a-long. But how many times can we walk down the same old roads? At some point, we need to break from this monotony and make our own roads. We need to create something for ourselves that is more than just a quick, cheap, and easy sell. Something that has many layers to dissect, discover, and enjoy. This is what Aficionado has set out to do.
Drawing influence from an array of bands ranging from At the Drive-In, to Cursive, to the Hold Steady, Aficionado has a developed a unique style they are happy to call their own. With roots in punk music, the band mixes organ, flute, and occasional horn arrangements into it's unorthodox blend of post-punk.

Hargo

Hargo redefines the face of the 21st century American songwriter. American-Sikh front man Hargo Khalsa's Eastern influence, a steady upbringing on Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, and a "more than passing vocal resemblance to John Lennon" (San Diego Reader) has resulted in the charged full-length debut 'Out of Mankind' (out February 28) that establishes his San Diego four-piece as a promising and compelling new voice in indie music.
The 26-year old Khalsa lived in India and Liverpool before settling in California and honed his prodigious knack for songwriting on a global scale. At age eight, he penned the theme for the South African Peace Conference, and his song "Crying For John Lennon," which Phil Spector praised as "something John would have written," was included in the 2009 documentary "Strawberry Fields" and marked Spector's last production.
Riddled with hooks, layered guitars, and dense vocal harmonies, 'Out of Mankind' drives straight to the heart of Smashing Pumpkins and Cat Stevens fans alike, from the eerie, brooding "Soul Survivor" to the 90s rock- infused "Regeneration X." "'Out of Mankind' asks listeners to examine their lives differently," says Khalsa. "It's about stepping outside of your culture and the things that we are spoon-fed in the world today—and about being a human being."

Mean Faces

We are band from San Francisco that started as a recording project. We have played several shows in SF Oakland and are looking forward to making a dent in the bay area music scene by combining rock, jazz, pop, metal and every other thing you can think of into a delicious bowl of slop.
