Love and a .38
Love and a .38
Love and a .38 is a four-piece hard rock band based out of Los Angeles, CA. They formed in the fall of 2008 and began packing venues shortly thereafter in the spring of 2009. Since then, they have quickly gained notoriety in the Hollywood rock scene, playing to capacity crowds at Sunset staples like The Viper Room, The Roxy Theatre and The Key Club. Love and a .38 has maintained a strong online presence, as evidenced by Total Rock Radio (UK) acknowledging them as one of the top ten best unsigned bands of 2009.

Thus far in 2010, the band was dubbed the Los Angeles representative for Hard Rock Café's "Ambassadors of Rock." In early 2010 they completed their self-titled debut EP, mixed by Grammy Award winning engineer Shawn Sullivan. The five song album gives distinctive nods to their classic rock sensibilities and punk influences but has a decisively modern edge. Throwback guitar solos intersect with anthemic hooks in a way that is both familiar and refreshing amongst the current me-too rock radio soundscape. Hundreds of fans arrived at The Roxy Theatre on May 8th to celebrate the album's release. That show earned them glowing reviews in several industry publications, and gave them lots of momentum as they move forward promoting their increasingly attention-grabbing EP.
Steakhouse
Steakhouse
Steakhouse is a five-piece rock group from San Francisco, California. Their music sounds like a mix of post-punk, electronic and art rock, with little bits of country/western thrown in at all the wrong times. They are influenced by Scott Walker, Neu!, Roxy Music and The Clash.

The band comprises a few of the people who answered a Craigslist ad titled “Art Fags Make Dancy Band,” during 2011. All the members of Steakhouse are veteran musicians:

Reid Black (guitar) was in Innaway, whose record was named “Best of the Year” by NPR in 2005. Innaway toured with The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Echo and the Bunnymen.

Robert Schultzberg (drums) was an original member of UK rock group Placebo, and played drums on the band’s debut record. He is still receiving royalty checks.

Orville Albright (guitar) has gigged and recorded extensively, has toured the world with the Brendan Benson (Raconteurs) Band, and taught the dude from 311 how to play guitar (seriously).

Adrian McCullough (bass) has toured with several major acts (including the Chieftains), has headlined Noisepop and appeared at the South by Southwest and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass music festivals.

Mark Sullivan (keyboards, voice) made two critically acclaimed records with American Music Club drummer/producer Tom Mallon, and now plays with Mallon in SF first-wave punk band The Toiling Midgets.

The group has been gestating in-studio for the past eight months, and now seeks to play small-venue shows and supporting slots in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Physical Education
Physical Education
Physical Education is a rock band that merges straight rock, dance beats and some electronic noise into a very high energy set. The band is comprised of Jon Hansard (guitar and vocals), Jeffrey Thorsby (vocals, guitar, keyboards and sampler), Art Echternacht (bass) and Jake Hansard (drums). Jon Hansard is a trained Opera singer gone rock. He studied opera at Long Beach State before moving to Boston where he help start a popular underground venue called the White House that continues to hosts bands and an annual experimental sound music festival. There Jon played in several bands before moving to Nevada City. Jon has played with other acts from Nevada City including Golden Shoulders, Brett Shady Band and The Trap. Jeff Thorsby played in several indie bands (Pisces Knife, Runners) from Northern California and plays solo folk music as well. Art has played in numerous indie and rock bands (The Picture Show, Pisces Knife, Let Go, Fresh Young Blood, Hospital Kids, Furniture on Fire, and Kings and Queens). Art is also a recording technician and has recorded several successfully released records from Marie Sioux and Agent Ribbons. Jake is a power drummer that blows the ear away. Jake currently also plays in a couple of other bands including The Trap and Brett Shady Band.
