Wolf & Crow
Wolf & Crow
Wolf & Crow is a music duo from San Francisco playing in the American roots, blues and folk tradition comprised of Zachary "Crow" Vieira and Mathieu "Wolf" Stemmelen. While their music shares the acoustic intimacy of folk revival veterans Nick Drake and Bob Dylan as well as neofolk contemporaries such as Iron & Wine and Bon Iver, their sound is set apart by its influences from mid-century bluesmen like Leadbelly, Fred Mcdowell, Skip James, Bill Landford, and Mississippi John Hurt. Vieira's silvery mid-to-high-ranged vocals and laid-back guitar picking peppered with Stemmelen's memorable slide-guitar riffs and even loftier vocal harmonies create a contemporary artifact of something haunting and timeless.
Bourbon Therapy
Bourbon Therapy
Aaron Skiles first picked up the bass guitar in 1992 as a freshman at West Point, and has been playing in bands ever since. Bourbon Therapy, Aaron’s debut solo project, is an indie-rock/alt-country story-telling portrayal of life’s ups and (mainly) downs. The eponymously titled debut album follows the story of a man as he navigates love and the complexities of life. The album was released in December 2014, and soon a band was formed to bring the songs to a live audience. The music has been described as “Soul Asylum meets Elliott Smith,” and with the addition of Aaron’s wife, Rebecca Skiles, the male/female harmonies are reminiscent of mid-90’s Lemonheads or The Rentals. With catchy choruses, accessible melodies, and healthy doses of piano and harmonica, Bourbon Therapy blends elements of Americana and pop to create a unique indie-rock sound that will have you tapping your feet.
Jacob Aranda
Jacob Aranda
Jacob Aranda is a multi-instrumentalist and member of San Francisco’s folk psych band Tarnation as well as China-the band. His songs are in the tradition of songwriters like Townes Van Zandt, Leonard Cohen, and Jay Farrar to name a few. Jacob’s music features a solemn gravity that weaves melancholy with beautiful, haunting, often cinematic images of traveling through landscapes both external and internal. His debut album will be out this fall.

After the 2009 release of his second album as a solo artist, Portland-based singer/songwriter Brian Rozendal started looking to expand his sonic options through the addition of a live accompaniment to his stripped-down folk ramblings. Through the metaphorical grapevine, local engineer and multi-instrumentalist Bryan Daste caught wind of the opening and promptly recorded a pedal steel “audition tape” over a MySpace download of the album, and on hearing it, Rozendal found himself with little choice but to bring him on board. With Rozendal handling the songwriting and Daste the production, the pair quickly recognized the success of this new, collaborative process, and the solo project evolved into its current form: the “post-folk” duo, Small Souls. Unheard, Unseen is their second full-length.
