Chilindrina
Chilindrina
Chilindrina is an up and coming noisepop band from the San Jose area. The quintet's sound is a result of growing up on Matador and 4AD and a back catalog of sad and noisy indie rock spanning the last 4 decades. Chilindrina began when bassist, Gloria Martinez, and guitarist, Jerry Lozano’s previous group, a local San Jose dreampop group known as, Casting Circles, dispersed due to creative differences. The Two met drummer, Michael Walsh and guitarist, Sebastian Figueroa, also San Jose locals, at a Casting Circles show in San Francisco a few months prior to the band’s split. Vocalist, Lizzie Whitfield’s “singer for hire” internet post read well and soon the 5 piece began churning out some noisy and moody jams at their practice studio, which happens to be on old Victorian farm house built in the 1860s, in San Jose, CA.
The Breaking
The Breaking
The Pacific Northwest has long been known as a stronghold of alternative rock, although Portland’s relatively recent rise to cultural mecca has created something of a faddish scene that barely resembles its roots. Nonetheless, a band of ‘90s-raised Northwesterners from the Rose City still carry the torch that illuminated their upbringing. Their self-titled debut LP, The Breaking, is a testament to the depth of that artistic heritage.

Frontman Adam Sweeney and lead guitarist Tim Karplus form the core of the band, whose vintage sound is best defined by album opener Gone Electric. From its wall of rhythm guitars that honor the band’s more raucous influences to its undeniable pop chorus hook, the single represents a solid debut effort that is sure to remind listeners where alternative rock found its footing.
Nine Pound Shadow
Nine Pound Shadow
Nine Pound Shadow is a happy-go-lucky band of family and childhood friends fashioning catchy melodies in the flats of West Berkeley.

They grew up humming old-school pop tunes and somehow, note-by-note, the power and mystery of classic music wound its way into the kid's mongrel DNA. The understated prettiness of simpler times grabbed their imaginations and steered their dreams.

As songwriters and performers, a timeless quality can be faintly heard in their music and their voices and underneath words they sing.

Born out of sounds past, re-forged into something raw and new, Nine Pound Shadow's music provides a vital voice to lovers and dreamers in wild times of trouble and change.
