On The Spot Trio
On The Spot Trio
On The Spot is exactly where these three musicians stand when they settle into a heavy funk-laden groove. Formed in July 2006, O.T.S. Trio mixes classic funky soul jazz stylings with modern jazz improvisational chops to create a psychedelic dance party for the ages. Guitarist Danny Mayer and drummer Emery Nelson were introduced through mutual musician friends, and immediately knew they would be musical brothers for years to come. They were fueled by dreams of playing in a Hammond Organ-based trio. Six months later, Mayer met versatile keyboard man Kris Yunker while studying music at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz County, Calif. Along with Nelson, the three musicians quickly found common ground amongst influences ranging from soul jazz greats Jimmy Smith and Lonnie Smith to Medeski, Martin, & Wood; Soulive and uber-guitarist John Scofield.

Mark Sexton Band
From the wild deserts of Reno, Nevada, Mark Sexton Band is a family of music renegades known for viciously executed soul compositions and white-knuckle driving funk. Accompanied by the commanding rhythm section of Alexander Korostinsky on bass and Dan Weiss on drums, this band is redefining the sound of modern soul.

Their musical chemistry began forming in grade school, and as young adults their chops defy their age. Eager to hit the road, the band started touring heavily during high school, often lying about their age to play in dingy bars. In 2014 Mark Sexton Band is gaining recognition on the major festival circuit and beyond, with appearances at Railroad Earth’s Hangtown Halloween Ball and Wanderlust Festival in Tahoe. Armed with keyboardist Ryan Taylor, and the horn section of Dom Lacala and Davis Corl, MSB is blowing the gates wide open on the west coast scene and beyond.

“We are always hungry for more and we’re more than ready for the next big thing” Mark states, referring to a recent tour opening for Toubab Krewe. In recent months they’ve also shared the bill with Macy Gray, Charles Bradley, Dumpstaphunk, and their idols are beginning to take notice.

MSB’s 2013 release, Young & Naïve, was mixed by none other than legendary drummer Alan Evans of Soulive. “It sounded great even before I got my hands on it”, explains Alan Evans, “that’s what happens when you get great players playing great songs.” The album was recorded in Los Angeles by Emmy Award winning engineer Larold Rebhun whose resume alone is like reading a 'who's who' list in Hollywood.

Tipping their hats to the days of Tower of Power and Stevie Wonder, Mark Sexton Band is forging the path for a new generation of funk and soul.
