The Heligoats
The Heligoats
At its heart, The Heligoats is Chris Otepka (vocals/guitar) and home to his wonderfully weird and diverse compositions. His distinct vocal style has been compared by SPIN Magazine as sounding “somewhat like Built To Spill's Doug Martsch.” His lyrical narratives have meanwhile been praised by NPR as “wise, wry observations on human emotions, science and the way things work. His songs are, more than anything else, the byproduct of an endlessly curious mind.”

Bobbo and Tracy moved West. Gregg showed up with a strat and a smile - he plays guitar. Geoff got a keyboard and mandolin and we said stand over there. Brian came from Wisconsin and we don't hold that against him. We are greater than the sum of our parts. We can't play quiet. We've tried. We thought we were alt.country for a while but it turns out we're a rock band. O.K. so we're a rock band with some pretty songs. We call ourselves Americana Rock. I had a new friend nail it on the head - he said "I like pedal steel and feedback." Mix the Gram Parsons with a bit of Joe Strummer, plug it in and hit the overdrive.

"The Fallen Stars is an Americana Rock band that believes a good story can break your heart and a driving guitar riff can put it back together again, all in the space of a three minute song."
