The Heligoats
He may be a lone guy with an acoustic guitar, but Chris Otepka gives fans a lot of ideas to unpack. Even his backstory necessitates some explanation: The former lead singer of a criminally underheralded band called Troubled Hubble, Otepka now performs solo and unplugged as The Heligoats — a strange name for a guy strumming a guitar, but oddly befitting someone who stuffs his songs with so many sideways ideas and observations.

Bobbo and Tracy moved West. Gregg showed up with a strat and a smile - he plays guitar. Geoff got a keyboard and mandolin and we said stand over there. Brian came from Wisconsin and we don't hold that against him. We are greater than the sum of our parts. We can't play quiet. We've tried. We thought we were alt.country for a while but it turns out we're a rock band. O.K. so we're a rock band with some pretty songs. We call ourselves Americana Rock. I had a new friend nail it on the head - he said "I like pedal steel and feedback." Mix the Gram Parsons with a bit of Joe Strummer, plug it in and hit the overdrive.

"The Fallen Stars is an Americana Rock band that believes a good story can break your heart and a driving guitar riff can put it back together again, all in the space of a three minute song."
