Bryan John Appleby
Bryan John Appleby
Seattle based songwriter, Bryan John Appleby, spent winter and spring of this year holed up with close friends in a Ballard warehouse banging pots, plucking strings, tapping mason jars, and plunking pianos. What emerged from these musical ramblings was the long awaited debut full-length, Fire on the Vine. The album elaborates on his affinity for organic soundscapes and acoustic found sounds. And yet, the record remains accessible with lush, satisfying melodies. True to the approach taken with his first EP, Shoes for Men and Beasts, the songs are crafted carefully, with an emphasis on compelling lyrics. The thoughtful narratives supply the cast of characters with a range of experiences and emotions that reflect the songwriter’s personal doubts and realizations.

Some who have only seen Appleby perform solo may find the album a bit surprising. Though many of the songs are crafted around Appleby’s somewhat sparse finger picking style, they take on new identities as far-reaching instrumentation wraps around luring melodies and harmonies. With live performances on KEXP and shows with Damien Jurado and The Head and the Heart in his rear view mirror, Appleby and his band anticipate a fruitful remainder of the year with various tours and local opportunities
Lemolo
Lemolo
Named one of the "Best New Seattle Bands" by Seattle Magazine, Lemolo is a dream-pop duo comprised of Poulsbo natives Meagan Grandall and Kendra Cox. The girls became instant friends as kayaking instructors on the waters off of Lemolo Shore Drive, where they learned of their shared love for music and adventure. It didn't take long for them to begin performing together and making their mark in the Seattle music community, creating what Seattle Weekly calls the "most promising expansions on the pretty sounds that have dominated the local zeitgeist." The energy these two produce live is a "force to be reckoned with," according to Three Imaginary Girls, and Sound on the Sound adds that Lemolo leaves the listener "aching for more." Along with receiving generous reviews for their lives shows, the duo has toured with The Head and the Heart, performed at Bumbershoot and the Dave Matthews Band Caravan Festivals, performed on KEXP 90.3 FM and sold out their upcoming album release show in only eleven hours. Lemolo will be releasing their anticipated debut album, The Kaleidoscope, on July third, and they look forward to what lies ahead.
