The Nickel Slots
The Nickel Slots
Fresh from their second consecutive Sammie Award win for Outstanding Americana/Alt-Country and a third-place finish among all bands in the 2011 Best of Sacramento poll by Sacramento Magazine, The Nickel Slots are poised for an even bigger 2012. They released their second album “Five Miles Gone” in July, a work that SubMerge Magazine said “...will make a serious bid to be the soundtrack of your summer.” The band will share its high-energy live performances with European audiences in summer 2012 on a tour of Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.

The Nickel Slots take you on a journey through hard times and desperation that always carries hope that better things are just around the corner. With influence from early roots Americana music as well as a touch of rebellious '70s punk, The Nickel Slots draw the line that connects Johnny Cash to The Clash. From the sentimental folk tune to the foot-stomping, raucous sing-along, their alt-country rock songs bring you back to a long-lost memory or shared experience of pain, joy, heartache, love, hope, and redemption. Performing together since November 2008, the band has built a devoted following in their home base of Sacramento. They gained notoriety as a song from their debut album spent a month in rotation on KWOD 106.5 FM's Sounds of Sacramento series before that station's demise in May 2009.

Lead singer and acoustic guitarist Tony Brusca writes songs that tell unique stories and has a knack for connecting with audiences. Bassist and mandolin player Paul Zinn's backing vocals add an extra dimension to Tony's melodies, and his bass lines just can't sit still. Christopher Amaral, The Nickel Slots' versatile drummer, lays down train beats and adds distinctive power to the band's sound. His brother, individual Sammie Award winner electric guitarist Steve Amaral, throws down tasteful licks that dance across the line between rock and country.
The Procrastinistas
The Procrastinistas
The Procrastinistas are a San Francisco band who have gigged exclusively at Hotel Utah for the past six years. They play an eclectic mix of alternative rock, with influences from soul, reggae, and jazz. Lead vocalist Cass Arnold sings sultry melodies over the band's sometimes brooding, sometimes aggressive chord changes. You'll be smiling and your foot tapping well before the first chorus kicks in.
